Nobody publishes how many charge points at a station are actually free: operators keep utilisation figures to themselves, and the charging point register only states what was built – not what is used. This site has been recording it for weeks. The full holding is available for download here.
What the figures show is in the analysis: occupancy by time of day, fast chargers without a free spot and reported faults by operator.
Oldest stored measurement: 9 Aug 2026. The download contains the measurements of the last 120 days; older ones are kept for fixed analyses such as the analysis.

Not a random sample. Covered are the charging stations of those operators that publish their occupancy at the national access point without registration – as of October 2026 chargecloud, Hamburger Energienetze (eRound), Grid & Co., Qwello, Tesla, SMATRICS and INERGIA. Generalising to Germany means generalising from these networks to all others.
There are gaps. The feeds are polled continuously, a few seconds apart. Some operators only send changes, though: a station that stays unchanged for a long time then has no new measurement for a long time. If a feed fails, that period is simply missing. The series starts on 3 September 2026.
One source, not reality. The operators report the values themselves to the national access point (Mobilithek), as Article 20 AFIR requires. Whatever is reported wrongly there is wrong here too.
Empty fields are statements. They mean "not recorded" and never "zero charge points". Turning them into zeros on import manufactures a utilisation that never happened.
